Some people say it’s because of how a rotten corpse looks, the fear response is because of the diseases that accompany a corpse. Others say it’s because we evolved alongside other almost-humans and this helped us survive then. I think it’s both. Like that’s the ultimate evolutionary adaptation. One adaptations covers two fronts at the same time. Nature favors the traits that work, this clearly worked so it makes sense we have smth like this

you didn't mention this but I will so some scientists believe this has something to do with the early ages when they're where multiple specifics of human because most species didn't know of other species so when they saw them they would most likely get this feeling of uneasy ness and since some species look really similar but where not fully similar the faces would be a little different we would get a uncomfortable feeling around them

Such an interesting topic! Sigmund Freud first popularised his idea with The Uncanny essay. It’s really interesting and explains the psychological implications more.
