@antikashyt: I completely get that it can be an alt right pipeline but that is NOT the fault of a movie. If someone cannot discern real life, bad from good, and maintain their personal morals then some bigger questions arise. #martysupreme #wolfofwallstreet #movietok #filmreview #antikash

Marty Supreme is my #2 movie this year. But it’s crazy to me anyone would leave the theater being inspired to be like him.

i disagree. medias purpose isnt to entertain aer isnt supposed to drive conversation or make ppl think. tho it can. its purpose (why ppl invest billions into it) is to influence n control, sedate and manipulate the masses, and set standards for social norms. fortunately ppl do look deeper into these things but overall more characters n films like this just reinforce ppl( most frequently men) being like this (horrible) and it being acceptable. the film wont tell ppl they are bad bc they got success and money n women this behavior is rewarded and gets u what u want. makes u famous. thats what the films ultimately tell ppl

Bonnie and Clyde died in the movie because they literally died in real life.

The wolf of Wall Street is a bad example. It was originally meant to criticize him but then they got Jordan Belfort himself to be very involved in the film so the entire movie is from his POV and glamorizes him while missing major details of bad shit he did

People understand they just don't care, people are allowed to like flawed characters, It's Anti-storytelling to tell the audince to not like who they like beacause the movie says their wrong. People have different opinions.

At what point does it stem from “bad media literacy” and not just the movie’s underbaked/careless writing ? I think one of the bigger examples of this is American History X, which seems to outline really well Derek’s descent into becoming a racist, despite starting out as a well meaning student that even had progressive/outside perspectives….but then decides to offscreen and speedrun his way out of this hole. - The filmmaker themselves wanted the ending to be Derek deciding to become a N%zi again….

Bonnie and Clyde die at the end because that's the end of the story of Bonnie and Clyde. they were real people

you could've picked anything but bonny and Clyde as an instance where they were forced to write their deaths in. Thousands of movies.

the negative impacts far outweigh the positive ones. youre giving the average viewer of these kinds of movies way too much credit? for what? no one intelligent who sees this movie as how not to be gains anything. its just another movie. but the people who emulate this character makes everything worse for us. those effects matter. is the safdies winning an award for creating this movie really worth them also creating and encouraging a ton of people who behave this way? i really dont think so. all in all, its just lazy bad writing. the same thing they literally always do.

all you said, is WHY we need media literacy. For the LITERATE, those things aren't an issue. We can see the grey area. we can have conversations about it. we can enjoy the characters as good characters, without idolizing them, because we understand they're inherently bad. People without media literacy, simply cannot. They need to be told "this character is bad" verbatim. Like...they still idolize Bonnie and Clyde.

every thing is not black and white like everyone thinks nowadays a director shouldn’t have to spell it out for you to understand that something is bad, even without these movies people are still going to idolize bad people wither it be from their peers or celebrities or whatever just because someone is bringing up something doesn’t mean it can’t be talked about or shouldn’t exist
