Taking time off as a nurse wasn’t a luxury, it was part of the culture, it was mandated, a right. Annual leave made it possible to take a week off every other month, and since you couldn’t really cash it out, you had to actually use it. I learned to make rest non-negotiable and look forward to vacations. Moving to the U.S. was a shift. Here, paid time off (PTO) feels more like a privilege than a right—you earn it hour by hour. So now, when motivation is low, I remind myself: every shift is another step closer to time off and new places to explore. Work funds the life I want to live outside the hospital—and that thought keeps me going. 💬 How about you?
