Ex Subie tech as well. Let’s just be honest here man. Ejs are turds! Rods bend, gaskets blow, ringlands go and bearings spin. Unless pushing unreasonable power on the stock block, it usually isn’t the first thing to go. Head bolt location design causes insufficient clamping force. Got a 2006 wrx that’s blown gaskets twice. Stock tune and Cobb ots with Cobb parts. Pro tune? no. my bad maybe? Driver mod? sure! Unless you put some serious cash behind these engines they’re roaches 🤣 don’t think so? Let’s talk about Porsche boxers and how well they hold power reliably 😉 happy new year Grayson been following for years now!

They did finally put the MLS gaskets in the 2010-2012 outback that still had the EJ25 engine before switching to the F series with the facelift in 2013.

any sohc ej once u put mls headgaskets they are literally bullet proof. mine about to hit 400k.

I got my subaru impreza 1999 ej201 and I never had any issues with anything in 10 months of ownership and 15k miles it all depends on the owner too I try my best to the care of it mechanicly

ej22 is a single cam N/A engine but does NOT suffer from catastrophic headgasket failure.
