Almost six months ago, I left my career as a PhD scientist to become a full-time stay-at-home dad to our two little boys. I thought I understood how much my wife @Dr Sarah did for our family. I was wrong. And perhaps the hardest thing to admit is that I shouldn’t have needed to experience it myself to believe her. For generations, women have carried the invisible labour of raising families. The sleepless nights, the mental load, the endless responsibilities, often while sacrificing their own ambitions and wellbeing. And that’s before we even begin to talk about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and postpartum recovery. Things I’ll never fully experience or understand as a man. Reading the hundreds of comments on my previous reel made me realise just how many mothers feel unseen, exhausted and unappreciated. Some of your stories genuinely broke my heart. This week is my wife’s birthday, and I want to celebrate her and every mother who has quietly carried so much for their families. To my wife, thank you for the sacrifices, the love, the patience and for supporting my dreams even when it meant putting yours on hold. Now it’s my turn to support yours. ❤️ And to my fellow husbands and fathers, appreciation is important, but it isn’t enough. Share the responsibility. Share the mental load. Be present. Because raising a family should never fall on one person’s shoulders. To every mother reading this, your work matters, even when the world fails to recognise it. ❤️ #stayathomemom #stayathomedad #invisiblelabour #mentalload #fatherhood
