My oldest recently told me he likes doing things with me just for the company. It changed how I look at our lunches together. He said mom sometimes I just need to be in your presence but not talk. So if you see us out and he’s on his phone and we aren’t talking know that I am doing my job as his mom the way HE asked me to.

Never let your teenagers feel you will always be their “safe place”. Don’t let them be disrespectful. You need to teach them how to handle a close relationship; how to control emotions; how to communicate when things are difficult. People who get used to this “unconditional love” from their mom will leave their worst side to whoever they are close with. Today this person is you. In the future this person will be their spouse. Do you think a hb or a wf could handle that?
