Counterapells dont allow etb effects every other removal does. With destroy/exile/-1 counters i can pay 7 for my creature and its ebt will still go off, but with counterspell they can pay 2 and not allow anything.

it's honestly the fact that it takes away a game action. at least with you know casting a spell and it's removed by damage or something that's still allowing you to have a permanent on the board state it's the last enter the battlefield effects it's still allows for activated abilities like being able to sacrifice something that's being removed on The stack. counterspells very rarely if ever have anything you can do, beyond rolling your eyes and passing your turn.

I feel like casual just wants to play the game by building a board state. / battlecruiser style. But once you get to cedh and b4 its all about countering the right stuff, and threat assesment.
