@jennifer.lauren.rose: This is my most controversial opinion as a former therapist and current somatic practitioner: If you’re on the fence about having a child, do not do it out of obligation, pressure, or fear of regret. I have never sat across from a woman who chose a child-free life and regretted it. I have sat across from many mothers who love their children deeply and still say motherhood was far harder than they were prepared for. In the U.S., we have: • minimal postpartum care • little parental leave • fragmented healthcare • loss of community and village support • unrealistic expectations placed on women Motherhood asks everything of your nervous system, identity, body, and life. If you choose it, choose your co-parent wisely and make sure it’s a full-body yes, not a social default. There is nothing wrong with choosing a child-free life. There is nothing wrong with choosing motherhood. But make sure you know what you’re choosing, and what it will ask of you. #childfree #childfreebychoice #motherhood #womenshealth #womensmentalhealth

My husband made us go to therapy to convince me to have one- I’m so glad I didn’t, despite the SHAMING by the female therapist

I think "wanting" it isn't enough. You can want all day, but if you dont have the resources needed, including inner resources, its not fair to the kid. Which I think is what youre saying anyway.

I am a very happy mother from Ireland. I would NEVER be a mother if I lived in America.

41 and childfree! Never. Been. Happier. After we made the decision to not have kids, I grieved for about an hour and then I felt like a huge weight had been lifted!! I admire women that want and thrive in motherhood but it just was never meant for me ♥️

Spot on. And it’s a shame, bc I do think far more of us women would love to be mothers if we lived in a more accommodating society, and if more men were brought up to understand the sacrifice required to be be a good husband and father.

Wholeheartedly agree! As a 50ish child-free woman, I'm so profoundly grateful I stuck with my gut and critical thinking that told me that motherhood was NOT for me.

Child-free (and husband-free) at 52. Breaking generational curses here. I fully agree with everything you said.

39 and childfree. Children are people and they deserve a family that is enthusiastic about them joining. Not people bringing them in out of obligation or apathy.

💯!!!! As a childcare center owner, some people are just not meant to be parents and that’s ok! Just honor that, because it’s extremely unfair to the child.

Reading the comments as someone without kids it’s so confusing to hear people talk about parenthood. “I hate it and it’s ruining my life” but I wouldn’t change anything. Huh?

I say this all the time!!! I was on the fence and I regret having my son. I adore him and I am a great mother but I don't enjoy motherhood it self

My aunt gave me the same advice years ago - if you’re not absolutely sure you want to have kids, don’t do it. And she was right.

43, no children, eldest daughter, zero regret. In a very happy and loving marriage, we knew it wasn’t for us. If you do not 💯 want to be a mother, don’t do it.

I’m all in. I wanted this on a cellular level. I adore my kiddo. I have a supportive partner who is involved. I am exhausted and aging rapidly.
