After several years without an outbreak, I realized having it is literally no worse than catching a cold once in a while. It’s just no big deal and it’s sad that so many are so afraid and judge it so harshly.

so funny thing, I was told in 2013 that I was positive for herpes via blood testing. I have never to this day had an outbreak or cold sore. so for YEARS I was telling all my partners and dates that I had it. fast forward to my pregnancy with my son, I told my OBGYN I was positive and he asked me if I ever had an outbreak, and was then told that I did not have an active infection. I was just a carrier. went through 2 pregnancies and have still never had any type of outbreak. side note: not 1 single guy in that time I was dating that I told ab this, told me it was a deal breaker for them.

Most dates don't lead to a relationship or even a second date, it's pointless to disclose it to every single person you talk with. What if you don't vibe on the first date?

The biggest realization I had that made me feel so much more comfortable disclosing my diagnosis was that at the end of every day having hsv does NOT change who I am and if it changes what someone thinks about me, clearly I’m the one wasting my time on them.

I think it’s important to tell the person before you get intimate. For example I have kidney problems so I can’t deal with antivirals that good. And there is no other medicational options. So that sucks

I tell them before the date is even established... if they accept it prior to meeting perfect.. I hate the stigma and uneducated mean people. Ive had it since I was a kid thanks to my father kissing me as a child!!

I feel this is something important to mention to a person if you are going to be intimate with them. They have the right to know. On a very first date? maybe not but shortly after if things goes well probably be a good idea. I believe in full transparency and respect.
