No one talks about how hard is it to come home without your baby, or sit in an empty nursery crying wishing you were the one holding your crying baby trying to soothe her in the rocking chair. Us NICU moms come home to our quiet house and empty nursery, with the only sound we hear being the hospitals monitor alarms going on in our heads from a drop in your babies heart rate or oxygen. A nursery with clothes sitting in the closet that will go untouched, never used with the tags still on them because our baby will grow out of them before she comes home. To drawers of newborn diapers that you’ll never get to use. Then when you scroll through social media, you see videos of newborns in their new homes with moms who get to enjoy the faint scent of sweet milk on their skin, realizing your baby doesn’t have the newborn sweet milk smell anymore. She’ll come home and she’ll never remember the sleepless nights you spent sitting in the hospital at the side of her bed praying over her for hours on end. She’ll never hear those hospital alarms going on in her head, waking her up in the middle of the night. She’ll never see the panic on your face when the phone rings and you see the hospitals name on the caller ID. Us NICU moms carry the heaviest pain and grief in our hearts that will never escape us, but we all know we would do it a million times again if it means we get to meet our baby for the first time, or see her first smile, her first outfit in the NICU or her first bath. It’s all worth it when she gains more weight overnight, when her feeds increase and when she is no longer intubated and has graduated to the CPAP. She will forever be worth it. Sincerely, A NICU mom who’s still waiting for her baby to come home. #fyp #nicu #nicumom #nicudad #nicuparents #emptynurseryfilledwithfaith #emptynursery #nicubaby #nicufighter #preemiestrong #preemie #preemiebaby #fighter #26weeker #girlmom #grief #griefjourney #journaling #smallcreator #nicujourney #interlinked #motherhood #childhood #sickbaby #motherdaughter
