@atsedescarseth: Not every big feeling is dysregulation. Some nervous systems feel in surround sound. Some emotions arrive loud, fast, and full bodied. That does not mean you are broken. It means you are human with a sensitive, responsive system. DBT is not about emotional control. It is about staying with yourself when things get intense. This series is about skills without shame. If that matters to you, stay here. #therapytok #neurodivergent #audhd #dbtskills #nervoussystemhealing
Someone pls bring me back when I can focus on this

I feel like my window of tolerance is 0%. I need help, I’m an AuDHD mum of 3 AuDHD kids and I’m finding myself so severely overwhelmed and dysregulated within seconds. I’m filled with rage, I cannot seem to figure out how to stop it, how to manage it, how to recognise it or a single skill to help 😭

I recently started DBT therapy specifically Distress tolerance for trauma as I had already been through and learned mindfulness and a myriad of other therapy methods for C-PTSD, but none of them have ever been tailored or even took into consideration my neurodivergent aspect entirely.. So this series is actually wonderful and will be very helpful in me getting the most out of my therapy I think, so thank you firstly.
I will be following along as best I can and may even share you with my own therapist as she is still learning how to work with specifically neurodivergent individuals. Mainly autistic individuals like myself, as it was never a focus or specialty of hers and she doesn't have strictly experience working with folks like me.. I always like discovering new things to learn and acquiring tools to better understand myself and others.

This is an excellent explanation that not only provides valuable psychological-ed but also, validation and normalization for the neurodivergent population. Very well done.

This also resonates with me as a person with chronic illness, my window of tolerance is so different than the traditional window of tolerance!

Super helpful! Thanks. I’ll just add the best way I’ve heard to discern the hyper vs hypo. Hyper thinks “I MUST”, hypo thinks “I CAN’T”.

What if I’m in a dysregulated phase, but I feel like calming my body won’t fix the problem, and until my mind manages to solve it, I can’t focus on regulation?

DBT as an ADHD mom with an ADHD son changed our lives. We started when he was 7 or 8. While he got a little bit from it - he HATED to use skills because he “didn’t want to need skills,” but I, as his mom, learned how to co-regulate with him. How can I expect a child to regulate if I cannot? Changed our lives. Thank you for sharing this.
