If you were able to make something akin to a gear drive then as the tension is preloaded it would click the pellet down into firing position and then when it fires it would reset with that you might be able to eliminate the rubber band as well as make any length pellet chains you would like.

would be a bit wonky shaped, but you could just make it gravity fed instead if you put the loading thing at more of an angle

What if there was some sort of “water wheel” that was used. One partial turn pulls the strip forward, another separates the head bb, the next moves the separated bb to the position to shoot. It would cause dry fires at the start though
