@cgledhill: I spent a fun day exploring the remnants of our ancient past. I could talk for hours about this stuff but I think TikTok has a video length limit. If you’d like a part 2 let me know, I’ve got so much more cool stuff to show you from today’s adventure. #historytok #adventure #exploring #Ilkleymoor #rockart

The symbol on the stone refers to the four positions of the big dipper constellation in the sky in the four seasons and represents the circle of life. And tells you clearly that the sky is rotating above a stationary plane..

Part 2? yes, please! Also, this is the kind of traveling I'd like to do. off the beaten path, away from super touristy areas, but still learning about the history of the area.

The ancient enclosures one reminds me of the Brewarnnina fish traps here in Australia. They’re in a river but they are the same shape right down to the circular space at the end where the animal is corralled for easy trapping.

Interestingly, Tolkien was at Stoneyhurst College in Ribble Valley and at Leeds University in 1920. It is very likely he walked those hills.

I wonder why ancient people were obsessed with cup and ring marks. If you were to enlarge these things and make them 3d, they’d become henges and mounds.

It is so fascinating how similar or even the same designs (sacred geometry, symbols, etc.) are all over the world. The swirling circle design (I don't want to flag TT) was used by humanity as a sacred symbol for thousands of years before adopted as a symbol of hate. 😔

Yes the bird was a grouse and the enclosures are for animals - we get them in Northumberland a lot.

it does look like the dead marshes!
maybe ancient enclosures were where they would shear the sheep, without having to take them all the way in?

I’m really enjoying your content. I have discovered that two stone circles and a rocking stone once stood at my local dog walking spot in West Yorkshire and have been fascinated ever since.
