I wasn’t allowed to use pads even from the beginning “because they’re disgusting”. Even though I begged and pleaded that it hurt, super plus tampons for me at 14. Took me so long to realize that she’d gotten a hysterectomy the year I started my period, she was punishing me.

My mom treated hygiene products like i was asking for the world. It wasnt until I started buying my own shit and living on my own I realized all the shit I was made to feel guilty about- WASNT THAT FUCKING EXPENSIVE!

I was struggling to figure out tampons and she told me to read the directions. I did that and still struggled. She looked at me and said “well what do you want me to do- put it in you?” In a very shaming way that I knew I had to answer no. She recently brought it up like it was a cute funny story from my childhood. I was 11 and just wanted to go swimming 😒

When I got my period at 10 my single father called me aunt to talk to me about what was happening while he ran out and bought one of EVERYTHING on the shelf then threw it in tue bathroom and my aunt talked me threw it. Love that man.

I hid my period for months- I would scrounge and buy products from friends and then we she found out i was shamed and when I asked to use tampons in highschool I was accused of being 'loose' and promiscuous 🙃

I hate to hear I’m not the only woman who had a mother who shamed them for having a period. I felt so awful growing up about it. I have 2 girls now & can’t imagine treating them like I was. 😓

I would literally walk 8 miles in a blizzard to buy my daughter what she needs. I get it though. I hid mine for months and eventually my sisters found out.
