@brandicassinger: The lasting effects of how she handled a child going through puberty still ripple through me and my own self care 💔 persistent on doing things differently and with love for the girls I have ❤️ #girlhood #puberty #motherwound #motherdaughter #period
I wasn’t allowed to use pads even from the beginning “because they’re disgusting”. Even though I begged and pleaded that it hurt, super plus tampons for me at 14. Took me so long to realize that she’d gotten a hysterectomy the year I started my period, she was punishing me.

My mom treated hygiene products like i was asking for the world. It wasnt until I started buying my own shit and living on my own I realized all the shit I was made to feel guilty about- WASNT THAT FUCKING EXPENSIVE!

My step daughter has always been odd about asking for hygiene products. So I just keep a little station in the bathroom now.

I was struggling to figure out tampons and she told me to read the directions. I did that and still struggled. She looked at me and said “well what do you want me to do- put it in you?” In a very shaming way that I knew I had to answer no. She recently brought it up like it was a cute funny story from my childhood. I was 11 and just wanted to go swimming 😒

The anger after being mistreated your entire life is insane 😭 I walk around the house talking to myself just like this! Like why? Whyyyy?

I would rather buy extra and take the little financial hit than make my daughter feel gross wearing them longer. I'm sorry you went through that hon

This is wild to me and I am extremely frugal but I can’t imagine buying the high quality products for myself but not for my stepdaughter.

That’s crazy because my daughter hasn’t even started hers yet and I already have a “emergency bag” for her in case she does. That’s crazy to me.

I hid my period for months- I would scrounge and buy products from friends and then we she found out i was shamed and when I asked to use tampons in highschool I was accused of being 'loose' and promiscuous 🙃

Mine didn't buy me anything. I went years and years with making my own toilet paper pads.

My mother was the same way. Acting as if a period is voluntary. It was entitlement to need ANYTHING.

I hate to hear I’m not the only woman who had a mother who shamed them for having a period. I felt so awful growing up about it. I have 2 girls now & can’t imagine treating them like I was. 😓

I would literally walk 8 miles in a blizzard to buy my daughter what she needs. I get it though. I hid mine for months and eventually my sisters found out.
