@thedrewlynch: My dad loved stand-up. It was one of the first things we watched together. He told me so many times how cool it is that I even get to do this. I think that’s what makes this video so hard to share… he won’t get to see the joke I wrote about how he’s not here anymore. Maybe he will. But he won’t be in the audience. Comedians write about what happens and sometimes what happens is painful. And I think sharing this part onstage in the form of a joke is an acknowledgment that life goes on. It imposes some sort of closure I guess I’m not ready for. Sure, comedian is my title. But my very first title was “son”. I hope you’re still getting your laughs up there dude. I miss you every day 🫶 #dad #family #standup #comedy #fyp

I've actually never felt more unsupported than when my mother died and I didn't even get a visitor. much less a meal.

I have a similar bit about midwestern casseroles when you get out of the hospital/surgery. Like thanks for this uh.... rotel rice and chicken with Doritos on top..?

When my Memaw died her hairstylist stopped by and dropped off food. My daughter answered the door and asked “what’s this?” Asking about the food but the lady mistook it as “who’s this?” And said “I did her hair” and my daughter yelled “you brought us our Memaw’s hair!!?!” It was a needed laugh 😂

Not in North Dakota. No one brings food when a death happens. 🤷

our friend sent us a door dash gift card after my MIL passed away. we were able to buy whatever food we wanted, whenever we wanted it. it was amazing and we didn't have to think about making food for several days.

My dad had ranch with every meal so I think pizza would have been appropriate 💕

When my Dad passed I had a friend spend over $100 getting my family a papa ginos because she knew we would prefer that over something homemade. my 4 kids and husband were all so happy.

My cat died in my arms on 11/2. My neighbor found out at work from my sibling and came over with a pizza and sat with me for hours. 🥹

The night my brother died, my cousin, who was a GM for Domino's at the time, brought over like 10 pizzas. It was very weird to walk in the door & see the dining room table covered in pizza boxes 🤣 (it was almost 30 years ago, I see the humor in it now!)

When as a child they never understood it. but being 43 now and thinking about it, it's because when you're depressed you don't want to cook. you don't want to clean. you don't want to do anything. you just want to grieve and so having all this food that you can just microwave or just stick in the oven. it's no effort

When my sister died, people sent me what I called “Dead sister food” and I ate none of it. I told people to send my husband DoorDash gift cards bc if they sent it to me, it’s immediately dead sister food.

When my dad died, people brought us pizza, paper plates, plastic utensils, paper towels, and gift cards. It was great. It helped my mom not having to worry about dishes and we got a lot of Walmart gift cards and could buy groceries with plus food gift cards so she didn’t have to cook. It was so helpful
