my little brother is like this. I've dragged him along for fabric shopping because he can instantly tell me how much 0,6m of €14,70 or 1,8m of €21,95 fabric would cost. And I mean instant. No need for time to think. He replies as fast as you'd do with any other simple question like "where do you live?". They don't think, they just know. It's faster to ask than the time it takes me to type it into my phone calculator😂 The woman in the video also knew instantly and slowly said the answer to give him time to write it down. I've seen a documentary about it and the research made a lot of sense. They think in a similar yet different way from most people because most of us go in steps by diving a difficult numbers into smaller/easier calculations and add them back up after calculating the easier ones. In a way they sorta do the same but with more/different brain areas that aren't usually involved. So the separate smaller calculations happen at the same time instead of one by one, which is much faster. They still use steps but all at once. Which is why those math savants often feel like the answer simply comes to them when they have to explain their talent (because we don't know how aware they are of using the extra brain areas) but at the same time they always explain the answers with regular simplified steps like any other person would use. Which makes it seem like they're just doing the same thing but faster. But it's not speed, it's literally multitasking and outsourcing to other brain areas. The math genius basically has more CPU
