Respectfully, your friend didn’t end the friendship because of a man. She ended it because a boundary was crossed. When she said “don’t start,” that was your cue to stop—full stop. Friendship doesn’t give you a lifetime pass to bulldoze someone’s comfort zone, even if you think you’re telling the truth. You weren’t wrong for wanting more for her. That part is human. But hard truths only land when someone is ready to receive them. She didn’t ask for your opinion, and you kept pushing anyway. At that point it stops being concern and starts being pressure. She’s not in a toxic relationship. He’s not a bad man. He’s just comfortable—and comfort isn’t always romantic. But here’s the thing: she has to be the one who wants more. You can’t want it on her behalf. It feels like, unintentionally, you were willing to sacrifice the friendship just to be right. And being right isn’t always worth the cost.
