@hihellojustine: Paycheck 1 of 26! I’m a nurse practitioner in Southern California. My position is part-time so I’m only obligated to work 2 12 hour shifts per week. On this particular paycheck I worked 48 hours but they were all in the same week, so my manager added an additional 24 vacation hours to this check to make up for the following week where I worked none. I didn’t realize she would do this hah but it’s fine I had plenty of PTO hours anyway. So basically this is what my pay would consistently look like if I worked full time hours (72 per 2 week pay period). But I don’t and that’s exactly how I like it 😉 girl I’m not meant to work full time, I’m meant to work a little bit then spend the rest of my days traveling reading and napping!! Also can we please normalize being HELLA OPEN about money because in a patriarchal society built on systemic racism/sexism, women of color remain significantly under compensated and we should be taking the act of becoming financially literate and independent as an act of resistance!! When you talk about how much money you make you’re either 1) helping someone else in your field realize they’re being underpaid and giving them fuel to seek a more equitable salary or 2) giving other people a chance to tell YOU you’re being underpaid in which case you can go seek out a more equitable salary.
