A security guard I used to work with told me this is technically stealing because it’s not your property if you’ve not paid for it yet and is still counted as the stores but they can’t grab you for stealing because you haven’t walked out the front door. If your kids get hungry when you go food shopping take some snacks for them don’t teach them bad habits. Hope that helps, signed an Ace child free woman who works in retail.

that is illegal since you by law don't own the item until you have paid. So it doesn't matter that you say you will pay for it, without explicit permission by the owner you cannot use/consume a product before paying
