In the UK, new requirements mean non wholemeal wheat flour will be fortified with folic acid by law from December 2026, and some products may start using fortified flour as early as Autumn 2025. That means any tortillas made with standard white flour will likely carry added folic acid soon, even if the brand never mentions it. In California, a new law also requires folic acid to be added to corn masa flour products like tortillas starting in 2026, to reduce birth defects.
