@cybernetsec: 🚀 ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) & Its Types – Explained Simply In computer networks, devices communicate using MAC addresses, but applications work with IP addresses. 👉 ARP bridges this gap by mapping IP (Layer 3) to MAC (Layer 2) inside a local network. 🔹 How ARP Works (In Short): • ARP Request → Broadcast: “Who has this IP?” • ARP Reply → Unicast: “This IP belongs to this MAC” • Mapping is stored in the ARP cache 🔹 Types of ARP (Clearly Explained): ✅ 1. Standard ARP Resolves an IP address to a MAC address within the same LAN. ✅ 2. Reverse ARP (RARP) Resolves a MAC address to an IP address; historically used by diskless machines (now replaced by DHCP). ✅ 3. Gratuitous ARP A device announces its own IP address to detect duplicate IPs or update ARP tables in other devices. ✅ 4. Proxy ARP A router answers ARP requests on behalf of another device, allowing communication between different subnets. ✅ 5. InARP (Inverse ARP) Used in Frame Relay and ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks to map a virtual circuit/MAC-like identifier to an IP address. #trending #viral #fyp #usa #student
