I think Max's character work in season 4 in the most impressive thing in the entire series because, unlike the rest of the show, it actually BUILDS on something from the previous season.

Not that I necessarily wanted it but Nancy and/or Johnathan should’ve died in the goo, Max should’ve been blind, Will should’ve been more effected during the last fight and maybe even died, and El should’ve stayed dead. Having everyone survive made it all feel so low stakes and made it feel like the rest of the show was pointless.

For me they spent far too much screen time on new characters like Vickie - only for her to then disappear in the finale AND make Robin ultra feminine suddenly. 😒

All I’m saying is, if Fuller House can get written, filmed, and released all 5 seasons worth, prior to the pandemic, writers and actors strike- then Stranger Things should’ve done it too. And the crazy part is- nobody even talks about Fuller House anymore. They should’ve just filmed Stranger Things back to back and released it all together in one season, after the next. But, they had to wait too long- and now the fan stories are far more interesting than the actual show, and you forget what’s happening in the actual show because your fan version is so much better.

Not releasing all 8 episodes immediately was a huge detriment to the show. The week long gap from volume 2 to the finale especially, gave a lot of people enough time to create and share theories about how it could end and then if they liked the theory enough, convince themselves that IS the ending. If they let the audience just binge the season, significantly less people would be disappointed because it wasn't the ending they fully believed it was going to be

I think the series should’ve ended with S3. Distilling everything into a secret big bad, Vecna, felt like both an oversimplification and retcon to squeeze two more seasons out of the show.
