@dirtprettyplants: "pon" with the leca bottom is my all time favorite way to grow plants, especially alocasia. But I do have Anthuriums, philodendron, colocasia, syngoniums, Hoya, and Monsteras in the same set up. "pon" is in quotes because pretty sure lechuza coined the term in reference to their formula, so I will use that term for ease. I'm sure I technically have lechuza still going in some of these plants, but at this point it's mixed in with my mix. yes I reuse my semihydo substrate! just boil to sanitize and then it's good to go again! talk about saving $$$$$!!!! that is the other reason why the perlite stratum is temporary. Both of them start to break down, and for cost, pon is my end goal. hope this helps guys! for real check it out! especially if you are growing a lot of plants in semi hydro. Plants get bigger and you will need more substrate.
