this was my fav book of last year !! a lot of times i find sensory heavy descriptions redundant and kind of overstimulating but Süskind is a true master of it and ive never felt so immersed in a story before !!

YES I just finished this and that part definitely lulled me into this false sense of calmness and stagnation (kind of like it did to grenouille himself). There’s this false sense of sympathy for him and his tragedy until we’re reminded time again that he’s terrible. Would love to hear your thoughts on the rest of the story! There was sooo much to unpack

I actually read this book!! I don’t know if it was because this was one of my first classics.. but I didn’t love it all that much? At least, not the middle part. Maybe it just took me too long to read.. it was a good book, but honestly I think me not enjoying it a LOT was either a me problem or maybe even a translation problem? I’m not sure [cry]

I just finished a series called the poppy wars by R.F. Kuang, it is horrifically dark and based on the sino japanese wars but the fantasy aspect is insane and i read every one within 4 days 😭
