Took carpet off my stairs and had the same issue so I just painted them until we redo the entire stairs and railings.

Did you only get one quote? 15,000 is a ridiculous amount. I understand prices are high but I deal with carpet installation daily and that's totally out of line.

You don’t have to have two rails for code. You also don’t have to bring treads up to code unless you’re tearing it all out. BUT I will say it would be safer to. I used to co-own a stair co. All stairs are to be the same bc we all use a cadence going up and down. One being different is dangerous.

I would choose the stair treads and then choose ur paint color to coordinate. White might be too bright

You can buy stair retrocraft treads at Lowe’s, they are easy to glue on top and risers on the bottom. I did it and wasn’t hard at all

Stain the top of the steps to match the rail and paint everything else white.. then the runner. That’s what I did.
