@harry.digital: Award winning documentary film on Perth’s urban sprawl (link in bio to watch full film). In this part two clip, you can see the result of urban sprawl on Perth’s city centre. Because people live far from the city, they rush to and from work, and at times the city feels like a ghost town — unusual for a central business district. Signs of decline are clear: vacant shopfronts, empty shelves, and unused buildings, often land-banked by owners waiting for values to rise. Without proper planning, the city struggles to activate its spaces, leaving much of Perth underutilized. #UrbanSprawlPerth #PerthCity #urbanplanning #theworldslongestcity #perthexplained

free and available parking would fix it completely. Who would go into the city and deal with parking when everything they need is available elsewhere

Most vibrant cities have many residential apartments where young and single people can afford to live and go and paint the town red .

It needs to be cheaper for people to actually live in the city. Apartments being sold for the same price as houses is insane. The fact that homeless people live in the streets as well doesn’t help the livability of the area.

I am from Perth and went to Brisbane the other week! It was so cool to see that public transport was sooo affordable in Brisbane. It cost me 50 cents to get a bus, ferry and another bus around the city and then back at the end of the day. In Perth that would cost over $10. I would access the city a lot more if public transport was something similar to Brisbane. Brisbane was also vibing and soooo busy on the Saturday and Sunday I was there - I think this is a reason why.

I’m from Perth and left 40 yrs ago at the age of 18. I left because it was like this back then, an absolute ghost town supported by nothing but suburbia. Poor town planning and urban sprawl undermine any vibrancy at all cultural and social level.

TBF the wealth of the city isnt in the cbd its the industrial estates thats supporting the mining and ag industry, the city is really just the office fronts for these companys, no real moneys made any where near the cbd

Cost of living is too high. majority of people cant afford to pay their bills let alone go out shopping, eating out or drinking in the city. Young people can't afford to drink in the bars and clubs like we could back in the day. I could go out with $50 and that would cover my tax there and back, food and drinks. wages need to go up to match the cost of living.

same with my regional home town Albany. so many retail buildings in the main street are empty. time to rezone for residential apartments.

Needs more residents, cheaper parking and public transport to get as our one Freeway is a parking lot. A circular route tram line down the middle of Stirling highway, canning highway and the freeway or Causeway that runs continuously, tunnel alternatives to the freeway, a bit of innovation.
