So close! Instead of pushing your back foot forward think of your feet like hands wringing a towel. For toe side push front toes down and lift back toes then the back foot follows onto the toes. For heel side lift front toes and push back toes down then back foot follows onto heels. You want more of a carve on the edges and less of a slide but you’re almost there!

I don't know why but after my second session snowboarding it just came easy to me. all the edges, and I can lead with either foot. I didn't have to go through all the struggle everyone else apparently had to.
