His calm, dignified presence made him a beloved figure among tourists, researchers, photographers, and local communities alike. Thanks to years of dedicated protection by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), conservation partners, and local communities, Craig lived his life in freedom surviving threats that have claimed so many of his kind across the continent. In 2021, his global appeal and ambassadorial status were recognised when he was adopted by East African Breweries under the Tusker brand, cementing his place as not just a Kenyan icon, but a global ambassador for wildlife conservation. Craig also contributed to the future of his species by fathering several calves, ensuring that his powerful genes and gentle temperament will continue to live on in new generations. His passing from natural causes marks the end of an era for Amboseli and for elephant lovers everywhere. Though Craig is gone, his legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to witness this magnificent creature in the wild.
