@tiffintech: The world didn’t end in Y2K. But the internet actually is scheduled to break on January 19, 2038. It’s called the "Year 2038 Problem, " and it comes down to how we store time. Legacy systems use a "Signed 32-bit Integer" to count seconds since 1970. The problem is, a 32-bit integer has a max limit. At 3:14 AM on that Tuesday in 2038, we hit that limit. The counter will overflow and wrap around to the negative. Computers will instantly think it’s the year 1901. And we are already seeing the cracks. Any software that calculates 30-year mortgages or pension plans is already crashing if it projects dates past 2038. This isn't just about iPhones glitching; it's about the deep infrastructure, power grids and sewage systems, that we haven't updated in decades. They have about 13 years to find every ticking clock buried in the code... or time literally runs out. #Tech #techexplained #stem
Most modern software and OSs have already switched to using 64-bit integers for storing time. This will be a non-issue.

Most systems are 64 but these days, of course.

We want to updated it to 64/128 bits? Or we have to hit a restart without crashing any system error 🤔.. How's this program is coded?! In invested in this

With AI development and the rate at which technology’s developing, I ain’t worried. Y2K was soo overrated, and lots of people made lots of money, it won’t happen again.

come on, nothing will happen it will normally shift the bits and it will start from 0 or it will stay on all 1s and it would need to be manually reset to 0. NOTHING FORCES YOU TO COUNT FROM 1970, you can count from 2038 again

This sounds like December of 1999 and my school gave us discs to “update” our time system before the computers exploded and nothing happened

Legacy systems? The number of those remaining is pretty low. But good info to know.

So does this mean we have to make sure every single airplane gets a software update before 38?
