Max Mayfield made me feel seen♥️Because I always was different than my girl friends, I hung out with my boy neighbors a lot and got made fun of for it. I was girly but had a “tomboy” side. But mostly because when I was Max’s age my older half brother left. He wasn’t really a good person, and he caused a lot of problems. He wasn’t the brother he could have been. But when he left I could help but feel guilty that I never did anything to keep him here, but I also hated him for how he was. I struggled with emotions for years about him. Guilty that I could have done something and for relief that he was gone, sad for a brother I never really got to have. I never really understood how to deal with my feelings because they felt too complicated. Max’s story helped me realize what I was feeling and helped me process my emotions. I had slipped into a depression around him for a while and I finally started to heal. I watched Max talk to her friends, and I realized I needed to do the same. I told my friends what happened and it helped me talk to someone finally, when I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone before. In the end Max made me realize I didn’t need to be alone to be tough and that there was nothing I could have done for my brother, that it wasn’t my fault. Max was the first character I saw on screen who portrayed exactly my situation. I never felt so seen. She felt like a friend. When I watched her it felt like I was with someone who understood.
