Mr. Mac :
Keep pushing, bro. March will make nine years hotshot for me. I started with a $20k dually and a Kaufman 43-foot trailer. My first three years were tough. No one would give me advice at the truck stops, so I had to figure it out myself. I used a dispatcher until COVID hit, and I found my first direct customer. Unfortunately, two years ago, they left the area, but by that time, I had found two more direct customers. Work slowed down, both direct customers slowed down drastically and I took a chance and started hauling sheds. As of today, I am hauling sheds and still doing hotshot. I am local, so I am home every day. Keep your head up. I sold each flatbed I owned to get better until I found a 48ft flatbed. I am using a 4500 Ram. I did start off as a non CDL. Any questions? I am a DM away.

I was just like you ngl I would dead head home after almost every trip. You have to know where you’re going when dropping off a load, my advice would be to try and make your way to Atlanta, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Chicago. Go to those cities and you will see night and day difference in the amount of loads and due to that you will get paid more per mile. Just stay in those states ( Tennessee, Kentucky as well) and you will see a major difference in the rate per mile. I’d say never go anywhere near the west coast. They don’t pay at all. Stay on the east coast and stay away from Florida

Keep your head up. I got cool with a broker and paid him on the side to give me competitive rates. Nothing really moves for under 1.50. Brokers are trying to make half of the money when they should be making no more than 20%. I was in a sprinter van for a year and after 3 months suddenly I was getting rates near a dollar for 500 plus miles. Use to take em for 60 cents. The struggle is real. Keep your head up. Do you run under your own authority?

I understand that it’s not easy to start because we’ve been there, but I’ve had far less brokers say no than say yes and we’ve never taken below our minimum which $3 per mile. I don’t know if we just have luck or what it is but I use all the same load boards as all of the other hot shots and yet we are still picking up good loads that rarely keep us out overnight. And I feel like people don’t believe me when I say it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You Gott.\n A try your best to not fill up at truck stops. I don't, I'll pull in the regular gas stations and jackknife sideways. Just to pay almost a dollar less, you got a small trailer, you can get in anywhere, so easy and the mud flap app is awesome, too.

The only thing I’m gonna tell you the container or the box that you were taken you gotta be careful when you throw the straps over because if the metal hit that it would damage it so that’s the only thing I can tell you good luck and keep making it happen. Do a good job and you will survive

Facts! I seen your page when you started and thank you for being honest! It’s tough out here starting out, it’s not what it was when I started researching. The 180 days is the new 30 days IMO! I’m at 7 months and gets better with time but still tough and honestly I think it’s gonna get worse (hopefully better). Still getting decent rates but not what gurus are posting. I try and follow the real ones like @KT3_HaulingLLC @Hotshot_Tev @L&H HOT SHOT SERVICES @🇬🇾hotshotbandit🇬🇾 Keep your head up and keep going, I want to see you make it!

This was my first mistake as well you may want to check your GVW I don’t believe you can pull a 40 footer behind that vehicle. Also, you may want to consider for your next truck something with duels and Diesel. I went 2500 HD Silverado and that was mistake. I would suggest 3500 or better after a hot shot. I tried box truck for a year and now I’m on my second semi keep on trucking my guy…👏👏👏
