@trippydana: Queen Califia’s Magical Circle by Niki de Saint Phalle ♥️🐍 Located in (a quite unassuming location) Kit Carson Park in Escondido, California, the installation is a surrealist dream of colorful glass, tile, and stone mosaics. A rainbow maze full of serpents and mythical creatures, a glimpse into her colorful mind. Was lucky to get some time in here without other visitors, and i felt transported to another planet. A peaceful lil dreamland. Inspired by Queen Califia and tied to early tales about California. Completed and opened to the public in 2003, it stands as both a playful tribute to local culture and a vibrant testament to Saint Phalle’s belief in art being accessible to everyone. It’s her only full sculpture garden in the US, and the last piece before her passing. Next on the bucket list is her Tarot garden in Tuscany 🐉💘

Wow! This place used to be a hidden gem. When I was a kid my younger brothers and I found this place during our older brothers soccer practice. We would always run there and play and we truly believed it only existed to us because no one believed us that it was there. We were always the only 3 and it truly felt like our Narnia. We used to climb the snakes and play tag and hide and seek in there. We went back years later and it became gated and closed to the public. Then it reopened again years later but you had to pay to go inside. We haven’t been there since but hopefully it’s completely reopened and free again. 💖🐍

Oh wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this place. I use to play here as a kid between cross-country events. Hide and seek underneath the sculptures and behind the walls with my cousins… what an awesome piece of art. Definitely a special part of my California childhood.

Did some of these pieces used to "live" in Balboa Park? They're so familiar, but it must've been 25+ years ago 😯

Awww, wow. Gorgeous installation! I also remember playing it in as a child, when it was always open to the public. It felt like a secret world!
