Sharing this in honor of Alopecia Awareness Month Three months after being diagnosed with alopecia areata. What started as extreme hair fall turned into bald spots. I ended up losing almost 50% of my hair. Hair isn’t everything—even if it was mentally draining and depressing. Even if it made me feel vulnerable, embarrassed, and ugly. Even if it made me cry every night. Every day became a struggle to hide the spots. Anticipating the day I might have to shave my head and become completely bald. How looking in the mirror triggered panic attacks and breakdowns. I learned the lesson the hard way. I reminded myself I still have eyes to see, ears to listen, a face to express emotions, a body to move, and a life to live. This journey made me discover hair toppers (chef’s kiss!) and how wearing a wig feels liberating and brave. There are a lot of reasons why I should not give up. Alopecia is no joke, but I refuse to let it control my life. My hope is heavy but I’m okay, and surviving. And that’s enough for now. To those who have been checking on me and helping me in many ways—thank you! I’m proud of myself for showing up even with a heavy heart and being brave enough to keep going.
