@foodfamof7: I know so many different things can happen to somebody’s body when they enter recovery so I would like your feedback for those of you who are comfortable sharing. and for those of you who read my captions I’m also curious how did you stay hydrated? What products did you use and what helped. How was your sleep in the beginning? we’ve been doing really good with variety lately, it’s been a long time since we had @skittles and I guess I’m headed to the store tomorrow for more because she definitely missed these treats! #fyp #recovery #whatieatinaday #food #foryoupage
If she’s waking up around 3am it could definitely be hypoglycemia! My ED dr always called it the witching hour for hypoglycemia and recommends 3am snacks, especially if there’s trouble going back to sleep. May be worth looking into!

For uncomfortable fullness in treatment we did “floor time” and legit just laying on the floor helped regulate. For sleep: highly recommend talking to psychiatrist about hydroxyzine, it has been a god-send for me. And for the cold: unfortunately I still struggle with quick heat to cold or vice versa. B it wearing compressions can be super helpful!

I really struggled with bloating and constipation during refeeding. Ginger helps, and lax a day was a god send

I am currently in recovery, and it is unlikely that electrolyte drinks are the source of her discomfort. For cold intolerance, a heated blanket may help. If tea is used, it should be decaffeinated, and I’d recommend adding honey. Inadequate nutrition commonly causes heightened sensitivity to cold, so I’d look out for that.
My personal bloating is being managed with simethicone (Gas-X), which has been effective. Constipation can also contribute to discomfort during recovery; polyethylene glycol (Miralax) may be used if medically supervised/recommended.
A significant challenge during recovery is fluid retention and temporary body changes that are not true fat gain but can worsen body dysmorphia. I’ve been in and out of some treatment centers as I’ve struggled for a while with this, but it’s been helpful to learn a few things. In these settings, intake increases are necessary and closely monitored, as the body may enter a hypermetabolic state after prolonged restriction. Additionally, weight plateaus are common, as the body prioritizes organ repair and restoration of vital functions before weight redistribution. I know this may feel frustrating as a Mom that may be focusing on a number on the scale, but this phase is only temporary.

fullness etc as someone said is unlikely tk be electrolytes, unless in the first few weeks fo recovery or extrenely underweight electrolytes shouldn't be needed if blood tests are stable as she will be getting enough from food. but given idk your situation & if shes purging your best to ask your doctor. one thing that can help fullness in early recovery is removing bulk eg alot of vegetables because they dont add much and quickly make somwone feel full. its documented getting adequate energy early in recovery is more important then having a balanced intake of foods, you can read more and the info better written in the book "Sick enough".

The first thing was focusing on what parts of my life I would be getting back. Electrolytes: LMNT and prescription phosphorus packets, magnesium gummies. Cold: probably worst right after meals and snacks-I drank warm water or tea after meals, used my warmies or heating pad, and rechargeable hand warmers. Wearing socks and a beanie can help a lot as well. Both you and she are doing amazing!

laying on your left side helps with digestion! I also found personally that laying on my stomach with a pillow underneath helped with stomach aches. also, sticking your but straight up in the air with your knees on the ground (like how toddlers sleep sometimes) helps with gas. looks a little funny, but helps a lot :)

i went into recovery when i was 16 in 2020. if you have a medical team following your daughter, you might ask them about a Creon or Reglan perscription. Those helped me SO much with aiding digestion after meals, especially because my meal plan was designed for pretty drastic weight gain. just something that helped me 🤷🏼♀️

I see the gogo squeeze electrolytes and I know when this you were talking about the electrolyte problems, but you should look up. It’s something called gutzy. It’s a probiotic smoothie pouch that has like 7 g of fiber and you can get some that also have the 7 g of fiber and 9 g of protein.

in early stages of recovery when i was experiencing a lot of stomach aches, my mum used to do 5 minute yoga routines with me and that helped me so much! she always made sure they were incredibly low impact and basically all they were is stretching in different positions. Sarah Beth on youtube has some great ones!! x

i personally struggled with fullness so much which really didn't help with the amount of food that i was given and would make me nauseous so much.( it was because i had gastric stasis which is caused from lack of fat surrounding your stomach) but what helped me is distraction like watching tv. But for treatment i was in a hospital so they didnt care what said about fullness if i didnt eat i would get a tube down my nose. But it sucked so much i couldn't sleep are move i felt so full.

I definitely needed a PRN for sleep in the beginning (Vistaril) and I took Zofran for the nausea or even ginger chews. Mint tea can also help. It’s a big challenge to eat when you’re nauseous but remind her that if she eats now then the nausea will go away bc it’s not permanent. I’m impressed that she’s eating full meals, I found that harder to do all at once

not in recovery, but have always struggled with severe sleep issues. i highly recommend drinking tart cherry juice before bed! its yummy, natural (i dont mind meds but i do think the fact that the no side effects by it simply being juice is a major plus), and has majorly helped. im not sure how it works but theres plenty of tiktoks about it, its how i found out about it!

@🎀: hi there! i just wanted to say you’re an AMAZING mother. i cannot underestimate how incredible it is that you’re so supportive of her. i developed an ed very young but i didn’t have the support at home to recover and i now have permanent damage. the people around me have continuously enabled and encouraged my ed instead of helping. i really hope things get easier for your family soon <3

what helped me with body changes was distracting myself. i'd work on a crochet project or scrapbook or something to take my mind off the full and bloated feeling. with sleep issues i would just stay awake so i'm not sure about that part 🤣🤣
