If cops keep getting away with that, which they do in 99.99999% of the occurrences, they’ll continue to do it: they know that they can make the law what they make it to be. And they’ll make sure to put you through ‘the process’ which is effectively the punishment. You want to hold them accountable? Be prepared for a lot of red tape, lots of delays and resistance to get bodycam footage from them, lots of energy, lots of time and lots of money. The result? Usually a slap on the wrist. They know that. And their chiefs cover for them most of the time. Result is that your law on paper is now what it turns out to be in practice, when cops decide that they can ignore laws that should limit their powers.

It’s hard to correct the cop when you have a judge that does not do his job. Many judges agree with the cop just for the hell of it.
