🚨🇳🇬 1997: A NIGERIAN INVENTOR DREAMED OF PUTTING NIGERIA ON THE GLOBAL AUTOMOBILE MAP… BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT DREAM? 💔 NAIJA: THE GIANT THAT CRUSHED ITS OWN DREAMS! In 1997, Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu unveiled the Z-600, an ambitious indigenous automobile project that could have changed Nigeria’s automobile industry. 🚗 Imagine a Nigerian-made car competing with global automobile brands! The Z-600 reportedly had about 90% of its components sourced locally, with a projected price of around $2,000. It was designed to demonstrate what Nigerian engineers could achieve with the right support. But the dream faced serious setbacks. 🚨 According to reports, despite government promises of financial support, the funding never materialised. In 2006, armed men reportedly raided Izuogu’s factory in Naze, carting away machines, moulds, engine components and important design documents. 💔 Years of research and development were dealt a devastating blow. Interestingly, during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), Biafra’s Research and Production Unit also demonstrated remarkable indigenous engineering ingenuity, developing technologies including the Ogbunigwe. These historical examples raise an important question: WHY DOES NIGERIA STRUGGLE TO TURN HOMEGROWN INNOVATION INTO LASTING INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS? Nigeria has talented minds. But innovation needs more than brilliant ideas. It requires investment, research facilities, consistent policies and long-term institutional support. Imagine the jobs, industries and technological opportunities Nigeria could create by investing seriously in its own inventors. 🇳🇬 We cannot keep celebrating our inventors only after their dreams have been abandoned. What do you think went wrong with Nigeria’s Z-600 dream? #History #nigeriantiktok🇳🇬 #Automobile #Innovation #Technology
