Thank you for responding. I actually agree with you, I think he is scared which is why he doesn’t do it in the cage where he feels safe. There can be lots of movement, loud noises, etc., while in the cage and he will not do this, but the minute he comes out of the cage, the slightest fast move or noise he panics and this is his response. All tests for metals, toxins, and nutrition came back good so those are out. Seizures has been at the top of the list for most people, and when they gave Floyd the medicine to sedate him at the vet, which is similar medication to seizure medicine, he still did this when they put him back in his carrier. The vet said although seizures are not being ruled out at this time, he believes that it is less likely to be a seizure issue because he shouldn’t have had a seizure with the medication. I’m hoping maybe the medication the vet sent home for anxiety will help but at this time anytime Floyd is out for longer periods of time this will likely happen. The only thing that made think there could be more wrong is because so many people said they haven’t seen anything like this before. I just feel/felt like well if no one has seen this then it couldn’t be “normal Galah behavior”. I’m going to continue to work with him and hopefully earn more of his trust. Ps… my son loves you and was so excited you responded to the video. 😊 Thanks again!

Bird_Tails :
Hey Zeb, I have a different theory of what’s happening based on something that happens to a bird I own. This looks like a reflex or startle induced seizure to me, the telltale sign is the flipping of the bird and the fact the birds neck is in the “ded dinosaur pose” while it is flipping. Pinto bean will do the same thing if something moves around her too fast, if there is a sudden flash of light, or another bird spooks her. Now I’m not a vet and I cannot diagnose but this is what I do believe is happening, pinto bean has pretty much stopped since being on keppra and phenobarbital. Birds will go back to being almost completely normal fairly fast at least in my experience (within 30 seconds to 2 minutes and it’s like it didn’t happen. Your theory is good too as I’ve heard it too but just based on experience I’m leaning more to a reflex seizure :)

I should have said this better: if you have a clear trigger, it’s behavioral. Especially if the bird regains control afterwards, if that makes sense.

What the flock rescue :
We had a cockatiel come in that did the exact same thing this guy did and the vet believed it was stress induced seizures. He had said he had only ever seen it once before.

I was one of those that recommended you to her. I knew you would have some good ideas about it. Pink Floyd is a hilarious name for your bird. I love it! You’re the best, Zeb! 🥰

Hello zeb, I just started following and watching your videos! I recently bought a Miligold macaw and she’s coming home in February! I am a first time bird owner 😳!!! I have a lot of experience with exotic reptiles and animals in general but this is going to be new to me and I want to do my best I can with her! Any advice/tips on this species?

My cockatoo has done it and actually punctured his eyeball recently and lost his eye. Panic/fear causes"paralysis" with mine where he can't walk or unclench his feet for about an hour after. Horrible to watch because I always worry if he will recover
