The Great South America - DAY 42 🇵🇪 🇧🇴 🇦🇷 🇨🇱 🚴 Lago Viedma - El Calafate 110 km - 1050 m. D+ 🇬🇧 After nearly 7,000 km, taking a detour, however not so long, always requires some thoughtful consideration. But I could never have imagined crossing almost all of South America without stopping in El Calafate. Wind and rain continue to affect my days, and although there are "only" 600 km to go, I still have a very tough and remote 70 km off-road section ahead of me, the final border crossing between Argentina and Chile, and the occasional small snowstorm. My morale is also torn between staying focused, smiling because I "see" Punta Arenas far in the distance, or letting the fatigue of these 42 uninterrupted days on my bike melt away. The sight of Perito Moreno has certainly eased some of the fatigue I'm carrying.
