Taking care of flowers. It was a metaphor to represent my past friendship and how it shaped me to cherish the flowers while they are still alive and when they do die, I should instead appreciate the memories we made and not dwell on their death or on the future that never got to happen.🫶

im a syrian who went thru the syrian war. wrote it in the prespective of little me and talked about how my childhood best friend always beat me in completing jasmine crowns before me, and how i eventually beat him by finishing mine first, but only because i lost him due to the war. i connected it to i grew up teaching younger children back in my home country how to craft jasmine crowns, and how i want to major in international law and advocacy for children endangered by wars.

mazapán !! super crumbly mexican candy that i compared to my fragility growing up mixed + being crumbled by external pressures outside of my control. felt like no wrapper held me tight enough to prevent the crumbles—in the end i learned to smooth out the cracks along the way since mazapán can always be remolded :)
