Good people You cannot judge a traditional process from a short clip or from the perspective of a visitor who is learning. While Speed may have done some things that aren’t culturally correct, the father and the girl were accommodating a foreigner who doesn’t know the customs. The purpose to make Speed understand basic culture in this short visit. In reality, there is a respectful process. the girl and boy first discuss and reach an agreement privately , then the father is approached days/months later respectfully. After that, Lobola is paid and celebrations follow. It’s not about “selling a girl” Lobola is more like thanking the father, through agreement, and tradition.
