I just blocked a longtime friend bc I fawned when he said something completely violating and over the line. It’s stayed in my head and forever changed the nature of our friendship, but I knew I couldn’t address it with him bc I didn’t address it with him immmediately

There's a subreddit called r/WhenWomenRefuse and it showcases times when women were nice to men, fawned at men, rejected men, were aggressive with men, women who froze, everything etc etc. They all have the same result. There is NO correct way to reject a man because every option has the possibility of ending in our harm and our deaths.

Fawning has weirdly saved me from being mugged like three times. It has also caused me to comfort people who hurt and abused me. It feels weird but since i found out a few years ago that this is my response to danger I’ve been able to understand myself better.

My therapist was very upfront with and said to me, in regards to this, that I likely couldn't be in a relationship while working through that response because I just... can't hold those boundaries. And tbh, I'm glad she was honest cuz I was destroying my mental health trying to stay in one 😅

Over apologizing is such a huge thing for me, I hate it. It’s like I feel guilty just for existing and having normal feelings - but I would get hit growing up for, ya know, having normal feelings and taking up space.

I would love to hear you explore the difference between stopping fawning, and being self centered in a not good way? The social hierarchy is made of self centeredness. I want to stop fawning, but I believe, in my values and spirit, that we are all connected & that there is a level of collective responsibility to consider others . So, how do I put myself first, and live in those values at the same time? I dont want to mimic the self centeredness in our society, and thus repeat the same harms. Id love to hear your thoughts about this!
