that’s simply not true. humans are hard wired to not stand out much from the group because to ancient humans standing out and being outcast from the small hunter gatherer society would most likely mean death

I agree partially with that, but to a degree, it’s more complex. I wouldn’t say it’s unhealthy to care what others think, because we’re social animals. Caring about how others see us helped humans survive and function in groups. To some extent, people do treat others differently based on traits like attractiveness or status, which can reflect real social and even genetic differences. So it’s natural to respond to that.
