@shrieks9incher: This isn’t something I usually talk about, but I want to put it out there in case even one person feels less alone. Before I ever stepped foot in the gym, I hated how I looked. With a shirt on. And especially without one. In school, I was so ashamed of my body that I’d get changed in a separate room. Not because I wanted to but because I was terrified of what people would think if they saw me take my shirt off. I felt exposed. Embarrassed. Like everyone was judging me, even when no one was looking. It got so bad that even around my closest friends, I couldn’t face them. When I had to take my shirt off, I’d turn my back so only my back was showing. I didn’t want anyone to see my chest. My stomach. The parts of me I hated the most. At home, it didn’t get easier. I was told I was getting ‘fat’. That I had ‘man boobs’. That my belly rolls showed when I sat down. Those words stuck with me. They played in my head every time I looked in the mirror. Every time I put a shirt on. Every time I thought about my body. I felt weak for caring so much. Ashamed for feeling ashamed. If you’re reading this and you’ve ever felt the same if you avoid mirrors, changing rooms, photos, or even taking your shirt off around people you love please know this you are not you are not alone. I was there. I lived in that insecurity. And I never thought I’d escape it. But change is possible. Not overnight. Not easily. But it starts with wanting more for yourself even when you don’t believe you deserve it yet. If I can change, so can you. And one day, you’ll look back at the version of yourself who hated their body and be proud that they didn’t give up.
