My school called it ATLAS i think, they made us look at weird shapes an asked us what and how they made us feel, it was super weird but idk if it was the same as “gateñ

people just want to feel special. all my friend group growing up all went to a "gifted" class. one of my friends struggled with math but he was really good at reading, so he helped the kid that sucked at reading but was really good at writing so he then helped me with my writing since I sucked at writing but then I helped another guy with his stutter and speech impediment because I was very good at speaking and he then helped the first kid with his math. we were all gifted... we all were better at a couple skills and also had a learning disability. thats why its "gifted".... youre special ed. thats why they pulled you out of class and told you not to tell anyone because telling your friends that youre "gifted" makes them jealous(I know because I didnt listen and I told everyone I was a genius and that I was gifted and everyone just thought i was a snooty brat with a superiority complex)

I think the GATE conspiracies only flourish because people experiencing early onset schizophrenia can now find each other and feed each others’ delusions thanks to social media. I was in GATE all through childhood, and it was just a way to separate the nerdiest kids (everyone was poor where I lived) and keep us mentally busy so that we didn’t interrupt the class. And you’re right that the other stuff is just public health initiatives (fluoride swishes and hearing tests) because they’re more efficient to deliver at schools.

I remember it, but i only truly remember bits and pieces its weird, I remember being pulled out of class for the hearing tests but it was like once a week, it was more than it should have been

The GATE conspiracy theories are strange. I was in the program. I was recommended by my third grade teacher, took an IQ test, and then went once a week for project-based enrichment. It was to support the curiosity of advanced learners.

Ok so here’s the thing. I was in a program and while I don’t remember a ton of details but I can tell you the beep hearing test you joke about in this isn’t what we were listening to on those ear phones. We were blindfolded at times. We listened to voice instruction to visualize things. We listened to sounds and then were ask what color it was. Please don’t label us all broadly as being just conspiracy theorists. It wasn’t just static or beeps and I also remember the actual hearing test that everyone took. That was a separate thing

I was in GATE 1st grade-5th: It was cool because I pretty much had the same kids in my class every year and we did get to do extra field trips and activities. The hearing test was iconic

I think it's more that the criteria incidentally favored neurodivergent kids - kids with autism and ADHD specifically - who were high-masking, but those masks begin to fail the older you get because your nervous system is disregulated and your support needs aren't being met.

I was in a gifted program and also find the conspiracy kind of silly 😭 like for me, it just seems blatantly obvious that it’s for people who are literally intelligently gifted bc the tests seemed like obvious iq puzzles and tests. Like getting into the gifted program, the ppl are either both highly intelligent and are nd but undx or their one of them bc certain nd and high intelligence traits overlap with similarities. But I disagree with the social status bc I come from a poor background soo… but the conspiracy stuff on my fyp is entertaining ngl 🤷🏽♀️

I wonder if some people are mixing up TAG with like IEP testing. I did the IEP testing and always tested really high, but I would do poorly in school. I actively remember the testing being real odd.
