I’m a second generation doctor. The best advice my dad ever gave me was to make sure you spoil your nurses, care assistants, cleaning staff, clerical staff, etc. You cannot do your job without them. It’s a huge team effort and everyone is a critical member.

My dad was a doctor. I loved walking the hospital with him. He always told me I might be the doctor but I am not the most important person here. He would say I cannot do my job with out the nurses, janitors, techs, receptionists… literally everyone here makes my job possible.

I worked with this doctor. He would buy lunches for all of the nurses in my hospital because he didn't want us to go hungry. He would jump in and help with anything. He made my shifts so much better.

@Cyklafelin: Once my operating surgeon learned that I work as a MLS he extended my sick leave 2 weeks. “You and the nurses do a hard work to save people’s lives. So let’s make sure you are totally rested before going back to work.” I want to believe he is as awesome to the nurses at the surgical ward as he was with me as a patient ❤️

My dad had brain surgery a few months ago. His nurses were so busy they weren’t able to get him up to ambulate, so his surgeon (a NEUROSURGEON) got him out of bed, got him to the bathroom, got him dressed & walked him in the hallway. As a nurse myself, my jaw was on the floor.

I had a gastroenterologist once help me do an enema and clean the patient up after and get them changed. I was SHOOK. I kept saying thank you and he could see the surprise all over my face. He shared that his wife was a nurse and he promised he would never be the kind of doctor to undervalue any part of the healthcare team. So much respect.

We have a doctor like this. Takes my patients on walks. Sits at the bedside in the mornings and chats with them. He’s the nicest and I would do anything he asked for his patients!
