I wish America would be better with public transportation, but then the billionaires would be losing money and GOD FORBID THAT HAPPENS

“Just live in a walkable area” yeah good idea bro it’s almost like those areas are also some of the most expensive places to live😂 the vast majority of Americans cannot just give up their car, they need it to get to work and just about everywhere else. The price of transportation without owning a car is not “super cheap” people without cars only a little less on transportation every year as people without cars.

The average one bedroom apartment in Manhattan is $5K a month! Thats $60K a year and $480K over eight years! Living in the suburbs and owning a car is far cheaper that living in a city core and not owning a car!

they used to represent freedom back when it was reasonable to pay off a new car loan in 36 to 48 months. We were looking last year and every dealership was offering 60, 72, or 84 month loans.

I hate it here. We have nothing but debt. No healthcare, education, housing, transportation just DEBT. The US is a MLM scam.

In a way cars represent your own space. Just like your house its a little piece of yours. While I am one that would love for our public transportation, to be better (busses and trains etc) I would also still have a car because I like driving and like the personal space it affords me

In Japan I can literally just walk 5 minutes and get everything I need. I choose to use public transport. In America I have to use a car just to get food

he could have leased a new car $400 for 96 months equals 38,400 + insurance, minus all repair costs.

I miss living in Boston where I could take public transportation everywhere. Now with Amazon and online grocery delivery, I’d ditch my car in an instant

I hate driving, but the places that have adequate walkablity are usually really expense and have bad public schools. So the reason I drive is because it's less expensive in the long run. I would live car-free if I could afford it.

I spent $1100 on a 2006 Chevy astro van for work. I spent about $800 a year on insurance. it allowed me to earn thousands of dollars in income. it had to be repaired 2 time in the 3 years I drove it, A power steering pump and an ignition coil. In that 3 years I probably hauled 30,000 pounds of steel for my welding shop. Try bringing 1200 pounds of steel on the subway. I used it to go grocery shopping, I used it to move a new stove for my neighbor. I put about $30 of gas in it every week.
I put about 40,000 miles on it. and when it blew a head gasket, I bought another one for $1600 and scrapped the dead one for $350.
