My 19 year-old son is about to join the military and he wants to join the Marine. I thought the Army was easier than the Marine, but he wants to do that.

He’s not lying about the inter-service transfer, I tried going reserves to active duty and I was supposed to get two bonuses they ruined my package and I got a reenlistment for my mos which is already hard to promote in and no bonus while their offering bonuses for guys in the reserves. Best bet is to just get out and make a better decision this time around.

as someone who did both a long time ago, first MC & then Army, there is a huge cultural difference between the two. I did the same job in both but I enjoyed the Army waaaaay more. suffice it to say the MC was not nearly as welcoming as the MC. not only was this my experience but my brother did the same & we both knew several others in the same boat. yhe conclusion was pretty much universal. just to be clear, I’m not advising anybody what to do- just know that the experience isn’t nearly the same in these two branches. good luck.

This is solid knowledge brotha. I just finished 6 years as 11b and I do gotta say that we had a prior marine that had been in gunfights so I assume he had a CAR from Afghanistan, but he had to do the full 22 weeks of OSUT with us. He was an E5 and got to have barracks room and didn’t really get smoked but there are cases where marines have to do the army’s training. Not sure if this is just an infantry or combat arms things or not. Solid video. Wish I had that before I enlisted

I’m 19 years old contemplating joining the military eventually in the near future can’t decide on army or marines. I would like to eventually become a sniper, which obviously takes time and can be done in the army - I may be wrong but I think they got rid of the snipers in the usmc. I’ve also thought about what you said starting in the marines and then going into the army but that would obviously take longer for me to eventually get into that sniper position if it’s something I end up doing. I like the pride that marines have and that long bootcamp would feel god to complete, but did some research and they don’t give as much if any of a signing bonus from what im seeing, as well as being slower to rank up like you said. any other advice you could give me I would appreciate
