I do understand the difference and I sort of agree with you. But a manager is in place to manage people and the work load. A good manager knows who can what job, the manager doesn’t need to be an expert on the matter they just need to know how to manage their team to get the work done. The major difference is the leader use skills to lure people to follow them to do the work, where as a manager knows how manage people.

2 different positions in my view. if you have middle management. small teams you have to potientally switch between both. a manager who has respect to and from there subordinates will then not micro manage but put self empowerment to the leaders. but a manager will probably be better, if was a leader before or atleast uses leadership qualities to mentor there subordinates who will be in that position.. just an example the manager implements the vision, the leader will set it. they work together hand in hand.

That is my manager all she does is giving us tasks and when talking to her all she does is tal’ how much she has done and how great she is.. my colleague and I are there more than 3 years and have not been guided promoted or even gone to an6 classes for us to advance

A manager in my profession is usually a glorified secretary. He gets less money and rightly so. We tell him what to do and he sorts it out. There’s flaws to having a manager who isn’t qualified in the field he’s managing like so many managers are. Of course the best managers know exactly what the job entails, helps with problems and makes the job easier and better. That’s why we have lead engineers too that get a little more pay.

Unfortunately, corporate environments don’t always reward true leadership. In some cases, those who demonstrate initiative, integrity, and independent thinking are seen as disruptive rather than valuable.

whilst i agree with this at the same time the manager/leader can not spend all of the time helping staff members to the job they are supposed to do, nothing wrong with helping and leading but not extreme because then you are babysitting and will burn yourself out.

As a manager, my whole ethos is I will do it first and I will never ask you to do a job that I won’t do myself and it’s caused me a lot of problems with my bosses but that’s not my managing style. The staff are my work force and they work better for you if you also willing to do it

Our higher management walk the shop floor every day. They say it’s the best and most productive 30 minutes of their day, they chat and know most people’s names. The majority started on the shop floor. If occasionally when everything goes wrong they put everyone on the shop floor, including all managers to help get back on track. It’s weird to see the top dog picking orders. We have over 10,000 employees over multiple warehouses and everyone of them is the same. Families also work together. A lot of the staff have 20 years+ service. People feel they aren’t a number, when you can chat to higher managers and they walk among you. They don’t set the wages, but they don’t take their staff for granted.

Agree whilst I own my own business (convenience store) I like to think I am both, I am on till 41 hours a week I put out stock I clean I tidy just the same as my staff do, team work

100%. I’m a team lead and I get stuck in. I’ve also helped 3 of my team progress on to new careers with in the company. I am a people person, you can’t teach managers that.
