If one of your goals for 2025 is to become a Firefighter, here are a couple things to help you get started. 1. Figure out where you want to work. Whether it’s one of your local departments or a department out of state, make a choice of a few departments you would be interested in working in. Once you have your list, research each department and find out if they are hiring & what their requirements are. Once you’ve found all of their requirements, write them down and figure out a plan to get started. 2. Work On Requirements If you’re straight out of highschool or haven’t gone to college, most departments require a certain amount of college credits. A good way to kill 2 birds with one stone is to find a college that offers an EMT course or a fire academy course. If you enroll in these programs and complete them, it looks good on your application, you’ll have your certifications, & you’ll have the college credits needed (give or take a few classes). 3. Start Applying Once you’ve gotten the requirements, start sending in your applications. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back right away, most departments take some time to get back to you. The important thing is to have your application in. If it’s been a couple weeks, call their HR department and let them know that you’ve applied and are wondering if they’ve received your application. 4. Waiting While you’re waiting for your application to be looked at, continue your daily routine but start your training. If becoming a Firefighter is your job, act as if you’re going to be hired. Either put a plan together yourself or find a plan that will get you prepared for your academy. That way you’re more than ready once you get the call. These are some vague steps, if you have any additional questions post them in the comments below! Good luck! #firefighter #firedepartment #firerescue #fyp #foryoupage #viralvideo #trending
