I just learned a new term- single kitten syndrome and I have thoughts…. For those that don’t remember, I had a 5-6 week old kitten wander into my backyard almost three weeks ago. He was SO tiny, so hungry and with so much skin and bones. Having zero experience with felines (I foster dogs), I turned to you all for help and guidance. You were so supportive, so knowledgeable and so helpful that you helped me come to the conclusion that I had been adopted by a one pound ball of fluff. This kitty has been inside with me for about 2 1/12 weeks, my having bought all of the esssentials plus about a bazillion toys, and so far it’s been a wonderful experience. I was completely and totally overwhelmed when I brought him inside. I began researching and learning about felines. I could probably write a doctoral dissertation by now but I still learn new things every day. Today I read about Single Kitten Syndrome and again feel totally out of my depth. So much outside research has been done on this phenomenon and once again, I feel like I’m not doing right by this little kitten. Sammy is very independent and plays well with the million toys I bought him. He rarely bites and when he does it’s gentle- he’s never broken my skin. He retracts his claws when I ask him, isn’t food aggressive and other than taking out an expensive Lenox vase he hasn’t been destructive. He tends to take his evening naps on my chest while we watch tv together. He rarely vocalizizes; in fact, he still doesn’t meow but rather chirps but rarely does even that. I don’t *think* he needs a companion but again, I’m out of my death here. I’ve read that independent kittens are fine by themselves- is that true? I’ve also read the two are less work than one- is that true? I’m drowning with one feline- I can’t imagine taking on another one but am I h
